LEARNING SPECIALIST
Location: NYC, Remote considered
Part-time, Contractor role
THE POSITION OVERVIEW
At EduMindedNYC, we support and teach students who find learning in the traditional classroom challenging. As a learning specialist, your function is to provide ongoing support, strategies, and remediation to students in our practice.
We form supportive relationships and communicate–not just with the student but also with all the people in the community involved in a student's educational development. An ideal candidate is collaborative and coachable, acknowledging that teaching and learning is an ongoing practice. Impeccable organizational skills, the ability to think critically, and appropriate professional judgment and boundaries (especially while in client’s homes) are necessary qualities to excel in this position.
Learning specialists can have a background in teaching, counseling, or some combination of work in both educational and clinical settings. Individuals must be able to work with children and adolescents in an academic capacity (comfort with high school level content or Early Childhood Development is ideal) with a thoughtful, whole-child focus.
You Are:
Passionate for teaching and learning beyond the traditional classroom environment
Able to utilize a variety of tools and curricula (including a child’s own school work) guide lessons and remediate academic concerns
Trained in different learning philosophies including learning challenges, executive functioning concerns, reading and language disabilities, math-related deficits, and auditory and visual processing weaknesses
Able to support skill-based remediation, social and behavioral supports, and content-based instruction
Excited to observe student behaviors and document progress
Flexible and able to “read the room” and adjust based on student needs
Observant and give exceptional attention to detail
Curious about the process of developing individualized educational plans
Collaborative with educators, students, and families
Communicative and seek frequent feedback and updates from the family and supervisor
A team player, willing to participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings for students and EduMindedNYC team regularly
Committed to connect with students as a mentor and not just an educator
Qualifications
(Preferred) Enrolled in or have obtained a Master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, or Counseling, or a certificate in Educational Therapy
Additional training or experience in educational methodologies or curricula such as Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell
High emotional intelligence and empathy
Self-motivated and driven to help students succeed
Aptitude for building relationships with students and colleagues
Ability to thrive and be decisive in a fast-paced environment
EXPERIENCE WITH THE FOLLOWING TOOLS REQUIRED:
GSuite, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, Zoom

Education/ Certifications
(preferred) Enrolled in or have obtained a Master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, or Counseling, or a certificate in Educational Therapy
Eligibility Requirements
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
